ID help please. Possibly Whitefriars?
« on: April 25, 2011, 01:33:52 PM »
Hi everyone,

I wondered if anyone can help me identify this vase please? It is a heavy good quality cut glass, probably crystal, vase with a ground and polished pontil. It measures 8 inches high 3.75 inches across the top 2.5 inches across the base. It has a flower design to the front with the petals reaching around to the back of the vase with circles and crosses. I have included 2 photos which show both the front and rear of the vase. I would really appreciate it if anyone recognises the maker and approximate age. I did wonder wether it could be a Whitefriars piece but not sure?

Many thanks,
Janet.

Wow what a nice piece of crystal.  I have to say that I feel it is Bohemian - expecially with all that fine criss-cross grooving.  No idea which firm though.

Oh ... thats a surprise, i wasnt expecting it to be Bohemian. Bit disappointed its not Whitefriars, but it is an absolutely stunning piece none the less. I would hazard a guess at dating it around 60's 70's going by the style of it and some wear to the base also suggests some age to it. Any more ideas from people would be appreciated.

Many thanks for your comments.

Oh Chris..lol...thats not my arm inside the vase its a black tee shirt i popped inside to try and make the pattern on it more visible for the photo. ha ha i wondered what you meant at first. Yorkshire humour eh! love it.
