Topic: Small blue hotworked vase

This vase is one of this intriguing little pieces that suggest a whole range of possibilities but don't quite match any of them. There's a blue interior with a hint of green (best seen photo 4) that's in the four ribs that run up the side of the piece, and it's cased in clear. The base is well-finished and chamfered neatly. It's small, 12 cm tall and weighs .5 kg. From the top (again photo 4) it looks square, which, I think, is the result of it being made in an optic mould and then twisted. It was worked on after that as the ribs are softened and disappear halfway up the vase.

That hint of green looks like it might be uranium. Have you got a UV light to test it with? Murano sounds likely if it is uranium.

Thanks for the suggestion, Christine. I tried the uv light and I don't think so. It's hard to be sure as there is only two tiny dabs of green in the piece.

In that case not uranium. You don't need much for a good glow.

Thanks, Ivo, I'll check those out. I confess I had Skrdlovice on my mind (as usual) but the mouth is like ZBS. I haven't seen the blue in ZBS or the subtle use of a second colour, but definitely worth looking. When you say Borské, does that include most of companies producing around Novy Bor?

Might be an idea to check Rikaro as well - it has similarities to what has been on sale for the jast few years.

I would look into ZBS as well -- they did some quite bold colour combinations,  and the casing in your vase looks like the citrin colour they used quite a lot.
