Topic: Who is this glass figure

I found this glass figure of a man today.

Please help to ID him I have not seen him before. Frosted glass. Looks to be pressed glass as I can see the mould lines, although there seems to be a tool mark to the base which has been polished out.

The outer rim base shows signs of ware

Height 7.5" / 18cm and weighs over 1.2kg

At a long-shot guess - he is supposed to be John Bull and a possible maker might be say Ravenhead.  The polished bit on the base would be a pontil that had to be ground of to make him stand successfully.

Holmegaard was the one maker that I thought of but I don't think they made this figure.

John Bull is quite likely who he is , I do have a picture of a c1875 John Bull figure and he looks very similar  , face and hat but the Victorian figure also has his dog at his side

Ravenhead seems extremely unlikely, as their main output was bottles and tableware. From 1913 it was part of United Glass Bottle Manufacturers Limited.

Mr Pickwick is another contender, though it is difficult to tell if he is wearing glasses.

Thanks I will check out Mr Pickwick tomorrow , this person is not wearing glasses.

I still think he may well be John Bull but still have no clue as to maker.

John Derbyshire did a John Bull figure (is that the one you've seen, Roy?) but this doesn't look old enough to me to be by Derbyshire... I normally think of John Bull having a higher flat topped hat rather than this rounded one.

Yes it is the John Derbyshire one I thinking of but this is not Derbyshire and certainly not as old.

Your are correct about the shape of the hat , if I had to try and guess the age of this figure I would say 1930 / 50 or even slightly newer . With out knowing the maker or even the country made its quite difficult to know for sure.
