Studio glass globe shape vase???
« on: May 09, 2011, 07:35:53 PM »
Bought this from a local antiques shop today not sure what or where he may be but its gotta look of isle of wight pieces ive seen but i dout it is as it looks a bit unfinished or maybe not up to scratch for that sort of quality of work just a guess!! The piece measures 1.5kg on the scales and is 4.5" tall the base is polished smooth and has a diameter of 2.5" so quite a wide base and heavy too. There are some small bubbles in the glass and what looks like small silver flecks not many but some in area below the rim. The colour comes down the vase and seems to die a death towards the bottom returning to clear or blueish glass some wear to the base. The colour i describe as being a bit like the mdina orangey/rusty colour only not quite as vivid and a mixture of a paler colour too hard to say but its quite nice but just wondering on it any ideas please???

Nice early globe vase from Mdina by the look of it.

Same shape as this one that Sue gave me ( :kissy: ): https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyMdinaGlass#5490048396067114674

Similar colouring to this inside out vase that also came from Sue but this time was a swap: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/EarlyMdinaGlass#5454388757958685634

I reckon either made in late 1968 or in 1969 in view of the colour, style of that rim and that coloured tint to the clear glass. An early bit of glass from Michael Harris, one of the trailblazers of British studio glass.

Wondering was this period right at the start of his career as it does seem to be a little whats the word unrefined etc i really think the pictures of johns early pieces must have stuck in the grey matter as i remember them!! Thanks for the offers too will bare you in mind  :wsh:

While there are a few frothy yellow globes around this, I think, makes the third one found in this very early colourway - and John has the other two, both originally mine.

I do like these yellow ochre pieces, they look fantastic in sunlight. :sun:

Here is another example in yellow ochre: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,40512
