Amber rectangular
« on: July 25, 2011, 01:37:57 AM »
Hi All

I found this really lovely amber rectangular vase covered in dust and cleaned it up and adore it.  It's made in three layers: clear on the outside, dark amber in the middle and lighter amber on the inside.  As you look at the top the dark amber is slightly raised on feeling the rim.  The clear glass at the base is slightly "swirly" but it has no yellow tone to it.  The outside bulges ever so slightly towards the base and it has plenty of wear on the base.  It is bevelled around the outside rim and also at the bottom.  It weighs a ton and I think it is beautifully made.

7.5cm on all sides and just over 26cm tall.

Does anyone have any ideas on any of it?

Could you check that there isn't a very lightly engraved signature on the base please?

Hi Max

It's possible there is.  It may have a "g" in it or a "q" at the end.  It's on one of the corner sections if it isn't just a collection of scratches that look good together.

What sort of signature did you have in mind?

Thanks

I had to find this vase in the attic.   :)  From memory it seemed very similar to yours, but I can see now that only the base is similar...maybe it's enough.  It's quite an unusual base although mine looks deeper than yours.  Have a look at the signature on mine:

Hi Max  :hi:

Your purple vase is very lovely and has the same "feel" as mine.  The base is similar certainly but I still am not sure that mine is signed although I'm sure I can make out an "F" and the rest of the scratches bear similarity to my other Flygsfors, of course it could just be wishful thinking.  My base is 5mm, maybe 6mm deep in the middle.  How's yours?

By the way - what on earth was it doing in the attic!?
