I'm on the crack side. You can see the light reflecting from it. A picture from the inside, if possible, might help to clear it up.

Before I started looking at the photos I said to myself 'well, if it shows up silvery where the light hits it, then it's most likely a crack', and it does appear to do that.  As Rose points out though, it would be more properly called a fracture.

To be fair to the seller, he probably did think there was nothing wrong with it.  You often can't feel that type of fracture with a fingernail so I expect the seller thought it was part of the design, like he said.

Max makes a fair point about no intention to deceive.

I have had a few of these vases and not seen this feature on those others. Handling the piece would clarify things but at a glance, it reminds me of a damaged piece I have that experienced the temperature shock of a Czech winter, causing internal fractures not caused by an external whack.

Hard to say from just looking at the pictures whether it is a completely internal or partially external crack but it is definitely a crack.

Certainly a fault and not a design feature though so should be mentioned in any listing I would say.

m's right, great thick bits of glass don't ring.  :pb:

But if it shines silvery inside the wall, it's a crack or stress fracture, which is serious damage.

Thanks very much for all the responses.  Pics from the inside of the vase below.  Also just wanted to make it clear that I'm sure this was a genuine mistake and not an intention to deceive.  It can just about be felt with a fingernail in places, but only very faintly.

good shots and as I expected. I agree with you all, especially Max that there certainly was no intention to deceive.
