Jaroslav Svoboda Skrdlovice lampbase
« on: October 19, 2011, 03:41:48 PM »
I'm very excited about my newest Skrdlovice addition -- a massive Jaroslav Svoboda lampbase in topaz, pattern number 7128/28 (I think).  ;D

It's 27,5cm tall, a hair under 10cm wide, and weighs 4861g.  Unfortunately, the true magic of the piece doesn't show through in photographs.  Tiny bubbles cover the white mottled bit, adding a little sparkle to the lampbase.  It's fantastic!

;D Thank you, gentlemen.  And yes, I do want to use it.  I'll take another photo when it's all set up.

Looks fantastic Anik, a great piece! I doubt thousands of these were made. Another photo when lit would be very welcome in coming weeks! The weight of it should make it very difficult to knock over!

Gorgeous, I would light it placing LEDS inside the tube.

"sigh" -- I wish my husband had such positive things to say about it.  Thank you, everyone!

When I got it, my husband also said he'd light it from the inside, putting a LED in the part with the white 'mottling' and bubbles. I got mad at him and told him it's a lampbase, not a lamp. It should look traditional, with lampshade and all.  That's when he started calling out all the names of saints...  :spls:   He said if I want 'traditional', then I should stick a candle at the top.

For the time being, it's pretending to be a vase in my unit with all my other Skrdlovice vases. "sigh" again.

I'd put a lot of LEDs in up the full length to give useful light, I bet the designer would approve today. Also less chance of it being knocked over as it is not a stable design with lamp and shade at the top, would it have had a wider wooden base originally?

Wow Anik, what a great find!

I would go the traditional way as well -- I am sure it will display beautifully with a cylindrical shade in a matching colour...
With LEDs it would look more like Christmas illumination than like the fabulous lamp from the 1970s it is :)
