triple sommerso vase - origin? Poli ?
« on: January 12, 2012, 10:18:08 AM »
Hi - another pre Christmas buy just arrived.
I love the colour and the triple layered effect of this vase. It stands 21 cm or 8 1/4 inches tall, and is 11 cm or 4 1/4 inches across at widest point.
I cannot actually decide if it is triple cased - pink, pale blue and ice blue, or whether the ice blue just has a streak of denser colour in it. Would appreciate your opinion if you have seen anything like this before.  I have photographed it backlit as that shows the layers best.  My blacklight is not working so cannot check for Uranium until I buy another.

It has good base wear , so I don't think it is a new item.

I hope it is Murano?  - my Googling has thrown up several with similarities all marked as "Poli " style.

Does anyone have any ideas please?
JAK

Hi jakgene, it is not a Poli piece. Was this one listed on aussie ebay recently? Because if it was a Poli piece it would be sitting on my shelf instead! LOL

I would say Murano, possibly not 50's though but a bit later. Probably 'generic' Murano. Can't add much else sorry. Lovely piece though, well done.

Thanks Kane

Yes , bought it just before Christmas on EBay Aus.

Glad to hear you think it is Murano - thought Poli would be too good to be true.

Generic Murano is fine by me - it is gorgeous

Thanks

So it seems you have become a sommerso fan like me! Good choice, it really is fantastic glass, although hard to identify. I did have the piece here you bought in my watch list. I do that with a lot sommerso pieces.

Lovely vase - I also like sommerso. My local antique shop has a beautiful piece of Murano not signed but he tells my it is Seguso Vetre D'arte by Poli. I really don't know enough about his work to buy at the high price, however I know a fair few of his colour combinations from my books and the piece looks right, but again his work was well copied and many dealers will tell you their Murano is Poli. I'll try and get a pic to post if he'll let me.

Thanks Adam
