Large sommerso fish -- help please
« on: January 18, 2012, 09:21:33 AM »
Does anyone recognise this fish, please?  It's 28cm long, 13cm tall and weighs 1055g. It's very well made, and the edge of the base has been lightly chamfered.

The mouth reminds me of some fish I've seen attributed to Konstglas, though I haven't been able to find this exact one.

Thank you. :)

I would think you are right - Konstglass, here is a whale I bought for a nephew: http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,37972.0.html

Thank you, John!  I wonder how I missed that when I searched the board?  Great whale, by the way.

F.M. Ronneby, Konstglas it is.   ;D

Edited to add:  10 minutes wiser, searching google images for "Ronneby fish" is much more effective than searching "Konstglas fish".  I have found a smaller version of my fish, signed and labeled.  I've also found Ingela's post on another board with images of this fish as well.

But now why isn't my item signed? :-\

It may well have been ordered like that by a retailer or supplier who did not want them signed so that they could put there own labels on them.

Really?  That sounds rather odd... Why on earth wouldn't a retailer (or importer) be proud of the diverse range of items they've got to offer?  They could easily stick their shop or importer label somewhere on the side. :spls:

But I'm glad that that might be the reason, and not that mine is a second.  I did take a very careful look, and couldn't find anyting wrong with my fish.  :)

They may want to imply exclusivity or perhaps they had an inflated sense of their own importance....

Hi Anik,  a lot of FM Ronneby Konstglas only has a label,  not everything was signed as well......I have some with just a signature and no label,  some with labels and no signature, and some with both, as well as some with neither.  The ones with neither may well have just had a label which was either washed off accidentally or removed by proud housewives who thought they spoiled the look of the item.
I am certain yours is an F M Ronneby Konstglas piece.
Rosie. :)
