Is this by Antonio Darosa? it has a George Hardy Cendenese label
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:10:20 PM »
Mod: Important Note. As at 19 May 2020, a thread by Wayne advises that George Hardy was not the importer of various glass items as has been stated in threads within the GMB. The correct importer name is Hans Geismar.

Hello Guys

Is this by Antonio Darosa? it has a George Hardy Cendenese import label for venetian glass. Its 10" high & has a very flat ground bottom & weighs approx 1.6kg

Any ideas?? I havnt seen this design before.....but ive seen a few vases with similar base designs??

It doesn't strike me as a Da Ros design. It looks like a standard sommerso bottle design. I don't know if anyone could say who designed most of the sommerso pieces. Could we see a bigger picture of the label? I've seen some Hardy labels. It would be interesting to see this label so we'll know what it looks like.

Hi Anita  :)  Are we still calling this designer Daros and not Da Ros?  I always get nervous about the correct way to write his name nowadays!   ::)

Max, all the people in Murano call him Antonio Da Ros. It is the way it is written in the books by everyone, including the Baroviers and Heiremans. We don't know anything, really, about the person who wrote here only once. It may be that Antonio's real name was Daros, but he may have designed under the name Da Ros. I figure that if the Marino and Marina Barovier call him Da Ros, and they knew him, I would follow their lead.

I see that pic is from my website, but it's ok mods, it can stay.  That import label is used on glass by various Murano manufacturers, there is nothing to indicate (by the label at least) that the piece is Cenedese.

Morning Wayne

I am busy trying to find the original site i found which shows all of George's labels, which specifically referenced this label to cendenese? there was approx 8 different labels for various makers inc Italian & scandinavian.

I hope you dont mind me using your image as a reference point?

I have a whopping huge oval vase in the same colour combo - blue and neo - allegedly by Da Ros. The design is a bit more complex though and there is no label or sig.

No problemo I don't mind, normal procedure is to ask for permission before using, that's all. Was just letting the mods know it's ok to keep it here, as they might have removed it if they recognised it.

I'd be very interested to see the site too, I didn't know the G. Hardy labels could be used to ID makers!  :)
