Topic: Long-earred, long-nosed, large-bottomed dog

Hi,

I bought two animals, thinking in my fuzzy brain that both are ZBS M. Janku items.  The little fox, 9,5cm tall and weighing 145g, is certainly Janku, pattern number 814009.  But the dog... ?

Does anyone recognise it?  It's 9,5cm tall and weighs 303g. It's got a seam going down its nose and muzzle which disappears where it meets the belly.  The seam becomes apparent again on the tail.  The base is flat and shiny, with no beveled edge. The colour is what I would describe as a light nicotine brown.

The shape of the dog's nose is very reminiscent of dogs originally made by Archimede Seguso. However those were well known / documented and done in a very specific type of glass sometime back in the 60s if memory serves.

Murano makers have used this colour (I call smokey topaz) in the mid to late 70s but genuine Murano pieces in this colour are quite scarce.

I would not expect to find seams on Murano items. Sounds like it was pressed from a 2 part mold. Definitely designed to resemble that famous Seguso design. I suspect points "east", quite possibly with the aid of a Murano trained glassmaster.

Thank you Pete!  Smokey topaz is a good name for the colour.  Much better than nicotine brown.

If I'd ask my husband to use his blowtorch to remove the seams, do you think I could turn the piece into a little less eastwardly Murano pup?

Anik most of the Cesare Toso Murano pieces have seams and a lot of it is neowhatsit . .jp
