English rock crystal decanter ID help.
« on: March 31, 2012, 10:00:33 AM »
Ok, 2nd one for the day.
Can anyone help identify this rock crystal decanter. Instinct says S&W, wide pontil to the base, similar to other work by Orchard, but I have seen a perfume bottle with very similar finish and pattern attributed to Thos Webb. Your help greatly appreciated.
Regards
Steve

I have attached some more detailed pictures than my earlier post. As I mentioned previously I had seen a perfume bottle attributed to Webb and described as rock crystal with intaglio and cameo cut alternating bands. I have just realised what they mean by this and again it is exactly the same on this decanter. One line of cutting is classic intaglio, while the alternating band is more heavily cut away so that the flower heads protrude from the design. Come on 19thC buffs where are you all hiding? How about you, Nigel?
