Small pressed glass teal oval ribbed bowl
« on: March 31, 2012, 06:19:30 PM »
This is a very nice wee bowl and I'd love to know who made it.  I particularly like the way the rim is on a slope.

Dimension are 43/4"(L) by 23/4[/sub(W) by 11/4(H).

Many thanks.
Nancy

Hi!  Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the maker of this little dish - or is it perhaps too bog standard to tell?

Some vague thoughts and spoutings:-

I'm fairly sure that sort of rim is found on some pressed pieces of Bohemian origin, I also think it might have what we call a "bird-bath" base, which takes us in that geographical direction, Nancy.
It's a nice thing. Elegant.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Thanks Sue!  I've seen reference to a 'bird bath base' before and never understood what it meant - thanks for enlightening me.  My feeling had been maybe Czech/Bohemian (and hope actually) but I'm not yet confident in gut feelings (I'd like it to be Sklo Union).  So here's hoping you're right - I'll have a look through some references.  I think it's rather nice too!  :)

Do you see how the description arises?  :)
There's a wide, flat-polished rim, with a round, flat-bottomed well in the centre. The sides of the well are close to vertical.
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

Yes, I do Sue.  Nice and shallow so that the birdies don't drown!
