the sad duck - any idea of maker? age?
« on: April 22, 2012, 01:15:39 PM »
I have had this duck for a while now - but know nothing about it. My daughter calls it "the sad duck".

It is 9 inches or 23 cm tall to top of neck curve. and 6 inches or  15 cm wide at the base. The head and feet seem to be quite well shaped. It has some age related wear but not a great deal. It is heavy - more than my kitchen scales - so over 2kg or 4.4 lbs approx.

although I am not sure my pictures show it well it is quite heavily cased in clear - the red is like a large balloon shape inside it. !
would be interested in any opinions as to place of making, maker and approximate age if anyone can help please.

I would assume made on Murano but no idea who.

Surely that is no duck... Does your daughter need an eye test or do you have very long necked ducks over there? ;)

I'm not convinced it's cased in clear; looks like neodymium glass to me

Thanks John, Christine and Rose.

Yes John - you are right - he'd have to be a goose or maybe a swan wouldn't he!  - we don't have long necked ducks but check these out -  we do have long necked turtles - these live in the lake behind my  house - they are weird!

Am pleased you think it is Murano and not Chinese at least.
Christine not neodymium and not uranium - I have checked for both. However on checking again there is the faintest hint of an aqua blue colour in the casing - not completely clear - but very pale. Perhaps the camera enhanced it a bit - thanks for noticing ;D
Rose I am not sure what your second post means - is it meant to be a link to something somewhere? Please clarify (I've had a hard day - not feeling the brightest - sorry if I am missing something  :(

And yes - my daughter thinks he look really hang-dog (if a duck (or goose) can be that) with his head down -so  therefore sad

thanks for all your comments.

Jackie

Duck head down is the name of the glass duck by murano that looks similar too yours.  Not a link just a search idea. Rose :)

Thanks Rose - sorry - was being thick! I had tried it on the GMB search and hadn't found it - thought it may have been a  previous topic.
However I have now googled duck goose and swan head down and not found anything similar either - so no ideas!

Thanks anyway
