Topic: Crouching duck bowl

Hi,

My mom bought her very first piece of glass at the market yesterday, not here in Poland, but back home in Quebec. The problem is I don't know who the maker is. 

It's 21,5cm long and 13cm wide. It weighs over a kilo and has a flat, polished base.  My mom says the edge of the base is ever-so-slightly beveled. I apologise for the quality of the photos, but that's the best she could do.

I've searched the board, and I've googled, but haven't come up with an attribution. Some Chalet birds seem to have a similar face.

Perhaps 'crouching' wasn't the best of descriptions for the duck bowl.

I've googled 'glass duck bowl' and 'glass duck dish' but did not get anything similar enough to this piece.  Surely someone out there must have an idea or two about the item's maker... pretty please.

Hi Anik,

It would not surprise me if this was Canadian (or Italian) maybe the Chalet specialist who comes here a bit may recognise the colours or shape, even if not necessarily Chalet........ it could be something North American....... maybe you could email her if she does not visit very frequently? It could be an avenue worth looking into at least,

Hi there,

Sorry to say but I don't think this is either a Chalet, Lorraine or EDAG piece so that pretty much rules out the Italian Canadain glasshouses of that era. I know AltaGlass in Alberta did alot of this style but I do not know anything about their work. There is an excellent Web site on AltalGlass so you might refer to it. And as always - Murano a strong contender.

Great peice - shape alot more interesting than the typical eh.

I agree with Deborah. My feeling is that it's Murano, although I haven't seen a piece exactly like it before.

Unfortunately, my mom decided that since no one recognises it, it's probably 'nothing', so she'll be using it as a soap dish in the bathroom.    At $8 CAD, it's the fanciest and most expensive soap dish she's ever had.
