Large Amber Cased Sunburst Jug / Vase Maker please :)
« on: June 26, 2012, 01:20:05 PM »
Big cased jug. 30 cm high. Darker amber at the bottom travelling up to become lighter. Cased with clear and sunburst? patterns on each side. Weighs 1.45 kg! Clear applied handle. Haven't seen as many cased jugs with that shape handle but I was looking under particular makers, Empoli etc. Any suggestions on maker? And I was thinking 60's -70's ?

Opalina Fiorentina I believe.  That snowflake pattern has been on here before.  I have a green one and I think I found a labelled one and listed it on here.

I *think* the actual manufacturer is Stelvia, Opalina Fiorentina being the style of glass.  There is a long thread about this design here:

oops  :-[ I can't believe after all the discussions we've had on here about these that I forgot that.  I did manage to find a yellow one with a label and asked the person for permission to post it on here but I haven't managed to find it again for ref.
I'll look now.

here is the labelled one
I think Stelvia was/is in Toscana so does that make these not Empoli?
Sorry for being so rubbish on my Italian geography.

When it comes to glass, I treat Empoli and Toscana/Tuscany as meaning pretty much the same thing.  The town of Empoli is in the region of Tuscany, near Florence, so all the names kind of get interchanged.
