ID bright yellow retro vase with circular bumps
« on: April 19, 2013, 02:22:29 AM »
I bought this vase at a charity shop and have been trying to find out who made it. I know I have seen vases like it at vintage/antique shops before but I just can't remember anything about it. I tried googling but that didn't come up with anything.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

The general concensus on this board is that it is Japanese and that these are found in Australia a lot.

I was going to say Japanese or Empoli, then I came across this jug on ebay during my morning search:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Retro-Vintage-50s-60s-turquoise-glass-jug-vase-/161008319341

Seems to be the same design, and with that style handle I would now lean towards Empoli, what do you think Ivo?

The Japanese ones are very similar though:

..and welcome to the GMB!

Just realised another one of these jugs was posted in that thread by Nic, and he said he had seen one with an Empoli label:

Anchor Hocking did spring to mind. ::) but even with little experience................. this just don't seem right for some reason.  I'm not sure they are the same Wayne.  Tbh, I'm enclined to agree with Ivo on this one.   Nice vase though! :).  Could do with a shot of the base.  That might be of some help to the board.

Well Nics jug and the one on ebay seem to have an outer ring part on the bobbles, as does the vase posted above, at least the lower 4 rows do.  The Japanese ones are solid bobbles without the rings.

Mr Flux, I don't think you have a definite id without finding a labelled match :)
But if we're having a guess at it, I would go with Empoli as Wayne says, rather than Japanese.
The shape looks right, the bobbles look right and the colour and depth of colour also.  But it would be nice to find a matching shape or labelled version with some of the bobbles surrounded.
How much does it weigh please?
Can we have a good interior shot and also a base shot for future reference also please?
Thanks
m

There's another jug here like Nic's, which looks to have one of the various Empoli labels found on this type of thing:

http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de/anzeigen/s-anzeige/italienische-blaue-vase/102498740-246-1776

I still haven't managed to find a vase exactly like the one in the first post with a label though.  More pics would deffo be helpful.  :)

Oh and what are the sizes please?
