The Most Lurid Uranium Vase ever? But who made it?
« on: April 20, 2013, 01:10:51 PM »
Picked this up from a friend who lives in France, where he bought it (just in case country becomes an issue).

It is the most lurid uranium glass I've ever seen - glows at the merest hint of sunlight - and is very seedy with hundreds of random included bubbles. The base is smooth ground, but not polished. Height 24.5 cm and weighs 800gms.

But can anyone help further?

In my head I can imagine Ivo saying Biot, David, would that be a possibility?

Well done your head, I think Anne. Mine went "click" as soon as you said that. (not before)
I've just had a good peer at a great big amethyst coloured stoppered bottle - the bubbles look just right and so does the applied band of glass (a bit wonky).

... except i handled that particular vase last week and it is NOT Biot.  Not the finish, not the sort of bubbles, and definitely not the colour.

I did wonder if it is a studio art piece rather than a production one. Also, if markings to the base are anything to go by (like a wet finger in the air) then it looks "quite new", but I know how misleading that can be.

Ah well.
I bow to your vastly superior knowledge, Ivo  :) - and the fact that you've handled it, (but the bubbles are still very like my Biot bit - perhaps not quite so many tiny ones - but it's a really big piece I have.)
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)
