Unknown acid mark on Moser (?) decanter
« on: June 15, 2013, 06:59:14 PM »
Hi,

I bought what I thought was a Moser decanter, designed by Rudolf Eschler.
Moser
It does however have a strange acid mark of a globus cruciger. Do you know if this is
a mark used by Moser?

Acid stamp reminds me of the LOBMEYER logo.

Moser had a system for a while of artist specific cartouches which they can identify, if it is theirs, which it probably is. Some of them were linked to the name, I remember one tree species surname had an acid etched emblem of the leaf...

Thank you, both.  :) Quite interested now what Moser will say.

Answer´s there already...
This mark has been in use from 1941-45 during german occupation.
I was a bit surprised because the decanter is in such a great condition with close to zero wear and all six glasses included.
They send me a whole overview of all Moser marks and their time-frame. I´ll ask if it would be possible to post them here
for further reference.   :)

Great news Dirk,
Good collectable colour as well. Do you know what this symbol represents? Is it a sceptre or a mix of Moser letters?

nice to have a rock solid attribution, this can be problematic with Moser at times,
so very good news.

Yep, glad to have something so solid.
I´m pretty sure the symbol is a globus cruciger.

I was thinking of orb and sceptre I think, which quite often go together in England. The orb is the usual word for a globus cruciger in England (I think!). An oddly hugely symbolic Christian item for a glassworks to choose. I think you may be right. We need a specifically Moser collector on GMB to explain why this was chosen, the war seems to have perhaps led to it being used.... A lovely set with a wonderfully precise attribution, time-wise.

Thinking along that line, too. Especially when you know the german term for it is ´Reichsapfel´.  :-\
