6" high weighs 750g, near impossible to capture the signature through the white core. Highlighted  with black to show.
Reminds of Mats Jonasson in style maybe?

Forgot to add the base  has just been ground flat but not polished which could maybe rule Scandinavian out?

Not Mats Jonasson work.  The flower is basically an "intaglio" moulded into the corner and then coloured.  I have an early one that is not coloured but done that way.

The position of the signature pushes me to think in terms of an USA maker.

My first impression was that it was very "Avondale" in style as my Avondale pwt is a very distinct bullet shape too(see photo).  However, yours is very large and I don't know if Avondale ever signed pieces or if they did who may have signed it and why not sign Avondale somewhere?

Hi Ross,  In all my experience with Avondale,  they only ever added a small. sticky. oblong. clear. with gold writing. label on their glass art work,  except when an inscription was requested for a comissioned piece, and even then only an inscriptio not a signature.

Chris, Avondale are still a fully functioning company and you can contact them here:

http://www.vickybarrett.com/artandcraft/avondale/

I am sure they would have a look at your paperweight and say if it is one of theirs.

I did say 'is it' typical of Mats Jonasson's work, not 'it is' typical, as, like Ross, I don't think it is his either.  His signature varies considerably,  but I find it very recognisable.
I don't know enough about American Studio glass to make a judgement there,  but neverthless,  whoever made it thought it was good enough to sign.

Rosie. :)

Done a bit of 'playing around' here are some much better pictures of the signature.
Think it a bit too well made and early for Avondale though?
Maybe leaning towards American now.
Tried to find a post by Adam A that lists quite a lot of studio artists but no luck.
Maybe should have put it in general glass maybe more chance of someone recognising it.

Is this the one you asked me to peek at, chriscooper?
I'm afraid I must have fallen off my little "roll".  All I can read is "pink floyd".
(ummagumma... and other dribbling, incoherent noises!)

I wondered that too but did not look up previous themes on him.  I have now and I reckon you have it correct.
