Topic: Amberina pressedglass compote help please

a friend bought this in france and would like to know who made it and age. i thought it might be by New England glass but i cant find the same design.  told him the red was made by mixing colloidal gold into the glass. and the amber is made by reheating. any help would be greatfull.

The pattern on the foot looks vaguely familiar but I couldn't place it with a quick random search.  You might add some size reference; diameter, height, etc.    Otherwise can't tell if it's to hold a small desert or a full cake.

thanks for looking cubby i have had some amberina glass before but never had one with the red as deep as this one.
size approx 9cm high 17cm across the widest

Hello

Is this piece made with a lead based glass formula?  If so, it will be extremely heavy for its size and when gently tapped will give off a distinctive long bell like tone.  Every piece of 1880s pressed amberina I have had the good fortune of handling has been a lead based glass.

it does make that sound but i thought any glass of the same shape would do that. still haven't found the same design yet.

They all will give you a sound but the lead-based glass sings.  You also didn't mention the weight, so does appear to be lead glass.  I would think this is from the 20th century.

Stew, I believe this colour is due to its selenium content instead of gold, the yellow due to less heat during pressing into the mould; but may be wrong.

I've often seen this appearance in Danish glass, Fyens Glassvaerk for example. Can't find that pattern, however, it shouts Danish to me...

thanks for looking pam i can see a likeness in the glass just wish i could find the same design. was led to believe gold made a deeper red thanks copper and selenium

Shining a UV light on the yellow bits it may tell you if it is selenium. I think you get an orange glow. A clearer picture of the pattern might help too
