bowl id please
« on: October 22, 2013, 11:05:10 AM »
Hi all,I've had this bowl for some time and had it down as a Webb,I'm not so sure now,it has a sort of pontil sized circle on the base pushed up into the bowl with alot of wear giving the impression of age.Interestingly it also has wear on the inside edges of the flat base hinting at a flower block of some sort ???,also worth mentioning it' has a wonky charm to it with a nice ring. 28cm wd 11cm ht..many thanks Ant.

I think you can rule out Webb because it hasn't got a pontil mark. It looks like pressed glass

There's no signs of any seams Christine, could it be mold blown?i think it might have some age or it's seen alot of use looking at the base.

Haven't we had pressed pieces like this in the past?  -  wasn't Nigel doing some work on them, and might they be Davidson - I seem to remember this slightly sea green looking colour.                But I'd agree definitely not Webb, and it looks like there's been a mould involved somewhere along the line.

It could be mould-blown, but pressed glass is still a possibility (and this bowl is that type of shape) if you can imagine how the final pressing would be removed from the mould. E.g. any indents that would make it impossible to remove (is that a lip between the bowl and the foot?) unless the mould was multi-part.

hi ,yes sorry should have mentioned there is a lip between the bowl and the foot,so if you can imagine the flat base is wider on than the start of the bowl on the inside..
