Edinburgh Crystal - patterns modified?
« on: April 25, 2014, 10:14:10 PM »
So I've been searching - for now weeks - and despite having an 8" bowl - purchased - I'm almost certain 1983 - original box - but not certain on the year.

Anyway - I've been searching to identify the pattern.  Weird thing is that despite being in an Edinburgh Crystal box - with description on the outside - with Edinburgh Crystal sticker + ribbon attached, etc, etc - the pattern is one I cannot find anywhere.

I noticed a few things -
1. it is very similar to Appin - but not Appin.
2. Pattern Number is either E436 or 83000 -> which I cannot find anywhere
3. There are some similar Waterford patterns - lismore - but again not matching and before Waterford bought Edinburgh Crystal in 2007 (?)

SO - does anyone know if Edinburgh Crystal ever had modified patterns?  Or where I might find a pattern list beyond those mentioned in the post http://www.glassmessages.com/index.php/topic,48011.0.html .... Could my bowl be a "modified Appin"?

See attachment

Thank you all in advance

1983 design. See 1977 catalogue here http://www.scotlandsglass.co.uk/cms/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=182&Itemid=6

Patterns would not be modified but new designs might be based on others.

ok thank you so 83000 is a year design number?
E436 should be a pattern number?

I'm still struggling to find what this pattern is. I get food colouring/preservatives if i try to use E436!
I suppose the answer is that it is not a design modification but simply I cannot figure out what the pattern is in the first place!

yes the 83 relates to the year. The E346 the pattern book, got a list somewhere of which pattern books exist. But at some point the pattern books need digitising. In the mean time I continue to look for more catalogues.

People have done research but not yet sharing it. The most that are publicly known are all on the SG site.

It is possible of course that it was a retailer exclusive range

It would still get a pattern book entry.

how do people find the pattern books?

I still cant figure out what pattern it is.

For sure from Edinburgh Crystal. 1983. My mum bought it and its sat in the box ever since. Nothing else of Edinburgh Crystal that I have matches it.
