Hexagonal cased vase --Chinese?
« on: June 08, 2014, 03:51:57 PM »
Any ID thoughts please on this hexagonal, cased vase with  textured finish. I am guessing probably modern Chinese but would appreciate confirmation, Thanks John

Similar to Davidson Luna range, although I gather the current thinking on these is Japanese.

Thanks, I have seen several other similar vases attributed to Davidson which have a thick lip around the rim, would these be genuine Davidson?

A few of these do get misattributed.

Wayne has some useful information on his website regarding both the Davidson 'Luna' pieces and also the textured ones; believed to be Japanese which have cropped up with a 'Best Art Glass-foreign' label. I have attached a couple of links below, which may prove handy, one showing the possible Japanese examples and the other illustrating the Davidson Luna ones. I fairly sure yours is one of the possible Japanese variants.

Thanks Greg, I am sure that you are correct about the Japanese attribution. Any idea on age 70s/80s?

Hi John, I would suspect, roughly similar in date to the Davidson Luna examples, so 1970s would be my guess.

I bought a green one of these at a car boot sale today. The guy who sold me it said it was by 'blackfriars' but I thought it looked like Davidson. Nevermind though, I like it anyway :)
