Kamei/Hineri threesome
« on: September 21, 2014, 03:40:54 PM »
Have these three which are quite likely I think to be either Kamai or Hineri from Japan, I'd say the wear underneath indicates 1960s-70s.

Tall 'cactus' is 290mm high, rainbow vase is 230mm high and bowl is 185mm width.

The 'clear' glass parts however, are tinged yellow in colour. I've read a post somewhere in Japanese glass mentioning grey/yellow tinged 'clear' glass before. These are only yellow though, not grey in their tingeness. Do we think they were made this colour in the first place or that it has occured over time - too much sunlight perhaps? Opinions greatly appreciated.

If the glass has a yellowish tinge, it was always yellowish. A greyish tinge is a consequence of manganese-containing glass being exposed to sunlight. A lot of sunlight will result in a purplish tinge

Ok, thanks for that - useful glass fact I'd say! They don't look very yellow in my picture but they are in real life. I have a German glass sculpture by Marsberger Glaswerke Ritzenhof which has a yelow tint (and another one that has a pink tint) but other than that these three pictured here are the only yellow tinged glass I've seen before.
