Who is "M. H. I.O.W." - somehow I doubt Michael Harris
« on: December 16, 2014, 01:37:22 PM »
There is a vase on eBay with the signature "M.H. I.O.W." at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261693381800 which the seller suggests is Michael Harris. Somehow I doubt it. Does anyone know another M.H. from another IOW studio?

Thanks for feedback.

Likewise I thought not IoWSG and not Harris either. Something about it had me thinking Midsummer but the shape reminded me of this Karen Lawrence vase: https://picasaweb.google.com/Johnmj100/StudioGlass#5440799929791104962

The MH IoW 'signature' looks like a later addition to me...

It's a little bit Norman Stuart-Clarke-ish too, I tend to agree with both John and David, the marks look suspiciously not of the same period as the glass, and are really rather meaningless to anybody who knows how IoWSG marked things.
I do have two pieces marked "IoW glass England", these came from the archives of the studio and were sold at a much later date than production. They were marked (I was told by Tim) just before leaving the studio. But they both have "glass England" written after the IoW, and neither have any initials on.

My first reaction to the signature was that it was not Michael Harris. It seems everyone agrees. As Sue says, the Harrises never signed like on this vase.
