La Serenissima Murano Paperweight
« on: January 12, 2015, 08:06:38 PM »
Good as I am at asking questions here I am maybe answering one. I have a memory of someone at some time seeking to identify either a weight similar to this or one with canes similar to this. Anyway - purely for information pictures below of this labelled weight that I have. It is 3ins wide x 2 3/8ins high and weighs 515g. Happy for anyone to use the images in any way they wish.

By the canes I'd have said this was a Fratelli Toso weight with the label possibly being a retailers label as it translates as The Most Serene  Murano. Not a glass makers name I've come across?

Hi.  'La Serenissima' is just the traditional nickname for Venice - so it is a shop label, on a weight made with FT canes, as Nick says.

On a long gone website they claim

Direct producers since 1984, after having had for over twelve years experience in handling Artistic Venetian Glass, we learned a considerable know how in planning, producing & forming Lamps, Chandeliers, Ceiling Lamps, Table & Floor lamps and whatever decorative lighting entirely hand made and mouth-blown glass in Venetian-Murano Style. Our production and future interest are addressed to the more traditional interior decoration in Classic style and particulary to satisfy our Client’s lighting and decoration needs for Congress Halls, Waiting & Dining Rooms, Hotels & Restaurants, Palaces and past centuries Villas based on our own Catalog or on Client’s own Project.
