Here is a post I just did in the glass section, in response to another user asking about one of Quintin's vases.
Since my piece is a paperweight instead of a vase, I figured I'd post it on this page, as a new query.
Is anyone familiar with Quintin, and his work?
I assumed American Studio, but since the photographer with the same rather unusual name is British, then I wonder if my guess about American is wrong.
I'm far from an expert on glass making chemistry, but I'm assuming this to be a silver oxide piece, in fact I've wondered if Quintin learned his technique from Joan Reep, the American artist credited (rightly or wrongly) with innovating the use of silver nitrates in art glass in the last century.
Here is the response I posted to the other query today.
"I have a lovely silver oxide pulled feather paperweight by Quintin Lake from '83. I've had no luck finding any info on the artist, I can find a few more of his pieces, but no bio's or history and anything.
I did send a note, including a few photos, to Quintin Lake, the UK photographer, asking if he was related, perhaps he was the glassblowers son, since the name is so distinctive. He was kind enough to respond within a few hours with a "no".
He said he's been asked a few times, and had even had people asking to buy his glass work, but that he had never done glass, and knew nothing about the artist.
Oh well."
