Whitefriars/ Caithness No 11.
« on: August 15, 2015, 08:58:40 PM »
Hello,

I recently bought a small oddment of a 20th century glass collection as I wanted one of the paperweights among it to add to my collection of rare British paperweights.

I am finding it very difficult to research a few of the items in the collection, as I have found the same objects to be attributed to several different makers / nationalities, mostly czech or murano and I am unsure which to believe and it has been difficult to find a definitive answer.

I am hoping there will be some assured expertise here to help me to identify these vases with more certainty.

Hi there,

I am not particularly knowledgeable about Whitefriars or Caithness paperweights but I do not think that it is from either factory.

However, the canes look Whitefriars (but not the set up or the ground) and I wonder whether it could be the work of Ray Annenberg who worked at Whitefriars until the factory's closure and who has produced paperweights with Whitefriars millefiori canes since then.

A nice weight anyway and I am sure someone else with more info will come along on the GMB soon.

Pictures of whole items including base shots and profiles would also be helpful. Dimensions too rather than just copy and paste the same text

Here is another possibility: Alastair Ross made some paperweights at Pairpoint using Whitefriars canes - I have a couple of them, bought at Pairpoint shortly after Alastair died. They are not signed in anyway.
