Sulphide or badge weight? Aventurine and lone millefiori
« on: August 31, 2015, 09:28:17 PM »
8cm in diameter and 5 cm high, single small millefiori, snapped base and slightly wrinkly dome.

Firstly, sulphide or badge and are both terms sometimes applicable? Secondly, is Scottish wishful thinking?

Sulohide should never be applied to this type of inclusion. It is simply an encased metal badge (or whatever). A sulphide is made from a ceramic / porcelain-type material and most often was used as a casting from a mould.

The central cane in this weight does not look like a Scottish one.

The colours look a bit lurid for Scottish too.
I'm trawling vague recesses, but perhaps Pilkington or Bohemian, from the general structure?
I think Christine might have some more fruitful ideas than I do. :)

Does it glow? I think I would go with Czech/Bohemia

Thanks all, it glows a limp dull green with UV. Looking closely at the ring of wear on the base I would say the weight has some age, my wild guestimate would be first half C20.

It was the white six pointed star on a yellow background that had me wondering about Scottish.

Hi.  Looking at the poor glass quality and style of base finish, I suspect a minor Belgian or Alsace factory, using a millefiori cane from some other source.
