« on: October 18, 2015, 01:17:05 PM »
I have this glass which is signed on the base, I have no idea of the origin!
Its dated and have an edition number but I don't know anything more.
Any help would be appreciated

It appears to read Joan (or perhaps Ioan, a man's name) de Chazal to me.

I've tried looking on the internet for similar items and changed spellings but got nothing back.
I'm a bit stuck, I thought it could of been a bit of Wedgwood but I've come up short!

 :)
It's possible somebody with some artistic talent  just bought a nice glass (sorry I don't recognise it - this isn't my kind of area) and had a (really good) shot at engraving on it, rather than it being something "official".
Cheers, Sue M. (she/her)

It sounds possible although I don't think that's the case as it has "no 91"
Making me believe that this is an edition and something professionally done.
 ??? ???
Maybe someone else can help because I'm stumped

Hi ,
Can you tell if this decoration is wheel cut or stippled , its looks like it may be stippled to me , if so then the lighter area's will be dotted with the diamond point and the dark areas left untouched to create the contrast,
I would not be surprised if the glass was contemporary with the decoration, although in the 18thc style I am pretty certain it is a reproduction,if not contemporary then almost certainly sometime in the 20th century.
It may be an idea to contact the Guild of glass engravers and ask about the name, with no 91 on this glass the artist is no beginner.

cheers ,
Peter.

I read that as 1984 and the maker's name as Joan -  so either a Catalan man or a British woman.

I read 1984 myself.

(Ioan Nemtoi is a Romanian glassmaker, (living and working in Canada) - so Ioan may be a Romanian name as well as Catalan. He's the only Ioan I know of.)
