Bird Paperweight. ID = Alan Fox, Australia
« on: November 23, 2015, 09:21:27 AM »
Hi,

I got this small blue bird paperweight from a car boot in Bathgate, Scotland. It is signed, but I don't recognise the signature. It appears to say 'top' or 'fop', as far as I can make out. I bought an Alum Bay paperweight at the same time. Anyone recognise the sig?

Cheers

It may read 'Top' as in Top Glass.  But you would need to check their sig on other pieces as I think they normally sign Top Glass.

The signature says "Fox" for the noted, and recently retired, West Australian glass artist Alan Fox. There is a recent post on the Board with an example of his signature here.

Signatures vary over time. Another example that looks more like yours is shown on Steve Lynn's website.

There are a couple of these Alan Fox birds at Boranup Gallery. Most of the ones I've seen have been iridized, usually with an all-over blue finish like the top half of this pair.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for that lead, I had never heard of Trevor Fox. A proper migratory bird then!

Cheers
