White pressed glass rustic style creamer jug
« on: April 10, 2016, 12:00:31 AM »
I'm trying to get some information about a small rustic style pressed glass jug of which I'm attaching a photo. This is in an opaque white glass which I think falls into the category of Vitro-porcelain of the mid to late Victorian period. I've searched various references to identify this item. Most return maker unknown, but one claimed it was by George Davidson, circa 1885, and that the pattern was included in Davidsons 1885 catalogue as pattern number 125. There is an item there on a similar theme but it is a pedestal base jug different in shape and pattern to this one. The pattern on this item is of a Rose and leaves, a Thistle flower and leaf, and a Shamrock leaf, repeated four times to correspond with a four part mould. A similar jug is commonly found in a marigold carnival glass finish, and appears to be a rather poor later copy of this design, which has been called Thistle and Thorn, and for which no maker has been confirmed.

The Davidson creamer with roses, shamrocks and thistles on the side is pattern number 133 but, as you say, it has a pedestal base, and the rim pattern is different too.

Fred.

Thanks agincourt17. This is the pedestal Davidson piece I'd seen, but it's so dissimilar in its detail that I don't think it proves any connection with mine.
