Loetz Olympia or something else?
« on: May 12, 2016, 08:59:02 AM »
I assumed Loetz and Olympia when I bought this vase but the textured pattern is causing me to question that. It reacts strongly to UV so uranium glass for sure.

Loetz Olympia: http://www.loetz.com/decors-a-z/olympia

Kralik use a similar textured pattern Sea Urchin but this is not quite the same: http://www.kralik-glass.com/kralikseaurchin.html

Any ideas?

John

Sort of also has a feeling of Loetz Rusticana pattern but with wavy vertical stripes? or Rusticana /Part Neptun :)
are the bobbles like the Rusticana bobbles?
But the shape and the foot and the pale see-through type green look quite unusual?  Curious.

No they are plainer than the Rusticana bobbles which appear more like a knot in a bit of timber. If it was not for the pattern I would be confident in an attribution of Olympia.

if you take a close up of the iridescence on the side does it look as though it is 'crackled' ?

My Loetz Olympia  pieces look as though the iridescence has been painted on with a very fine brush, in horizontal stripes, when you take a close up.

When Christine put up an Olympia type gourd shaped vase a few years ago, the iridescent finish was different and I think I found a reference to that being Fritz Heckert?

I'm just wondering if a close up of your might indicate something .... but don't know what :)

I wonder if there is a Loetz Shape match to it somewhere?

I'm sure I'm wrong because the colour and decor isn't a fit that I could find at all, but something about the shape sort of reminds me of a Rindskopf vase somehow.

Slight tangent possibly but isn't this shape just a squatter fatter version of yours?
This one is listed as Loetz, and I came across it because I found two others that were orange with vertical black stripes on them in exactly the same shape also listed as Loetz.

Perhaps you have an unidentified dekor?

Looks to be the decor in the upper left corner of this image from Loetz.com. Believed to be Loetz, but currently unidentified as to the décor name or number. Found in the Décor listings under "Unknown".

Hope it helps.

I have been told that glass is my mistress......

Sorry for the delay replying m, been out all day. There are a few striations but I can't tell if they are scratches on the glass - maybe from the mould or actually part of the iridescent layer, there is also what looks like a slight crackling but it is faint.

Spot on, another example of that unidentified decor, thank you both m and Craig for taking a look. I had peeked at that page but I just missed seeing it, thank you. :)

For future reference, height of the vase is 7 inches or 17.5cm

Thanks for the additional photos :)
The iridescence looks normal  or very similar to that on my Olympia vases.
