Mdina goblet vase.
« on: July 08, 2016, 12:04:49 PM »
Hi,

This appeared on the market recently and is interesting in many respects. No markings to base.

It has a flared and trailed bowl.

Thoughts welcomed.

Is it yours?
Do you notice a grid pattern in the strapping?

This is a range that was produced in the mid-'70s, the silver chloride crizzle pattern in the glass with teal strapping, along with the streaky-red with teal-strapping range, but is much less commonly found. Sometimes the strapping is grid-like.
I've noticed the grid pattern in the strapping on some of the red and teal things too.
I've not seen a goblet from this range before.

Yes I did buy it just because it was unusual.......

There is a slight grid pattern but the trail mainly goes around the bowl with lighter cross paths of Teal.

Cheers,

Superb pieces of art-glass.

Are they signed and do you have a possible date for these pieces ?

Thanks,

          Patrick.

That attenuated bottle isn't marked, neither is my other, slightly shorter one.

The other bottle, with the flared rim, John shows is marked Mdina, in the early style of script, my other one isn't marked.
They all date to the mid-'70s onwards.
These belong in the period of interesting and complex designs that were created in the period shortly after Harris left and before Said took over completely.
(these are the other ones)

That is an extremely unusual one, Christine. I've never seen another. :)
There is clear strapping on clear glass with the crizzle, your cylinder is the only one I've seen with a coloured background and clear strapping.
I'm a little bit green over that one. But I do have *other* really unusual cylinders myself.
I like the cylinder vases. They're a simple but strong shape.
