Moser like deceptive glass with Pansy flower base
« on: May 14, 2017, 08:12:07 PM »
I bought this small glass at a car boot today. It looks very Moser or Bohemian like to me. I am not sure if its from a set or an individual firing or deceptive glass. The glass has a 12 cut panel sides with a circular interior.
Inside the base there is what looks like a pansy which may be hand painted on gold leaf and inserted into the base. When looking into the base you get a reflection of the pansy on all 12 sides.

Height 2.25" / 5.5cm
Weighs a heavy 230gm for its size.

Any thoughts would all welcomed and appreciated.

Thanks Roy

Hi Roy,

I don't really know much about this stuff but I do remember reading somewhere that Moser and VSL made glasses like these with flowers in base. I can't recall where I read it though, sorry!

Thanks Adam, sorry I missed your reply.
I still have not found anything similar, but still think someone like Moser. I will continue to look.

It's referred to as a 'Zwischengoldglas' and Andrew Lineham has featured a version here:
http://www.antiquecolouredglass.info/Bohemian%20Glass.htm

but does not refer to it as Moser.  His site says c.1860.
The AL one has a clover and there's one around with forget me nots in. Oh and AL has one with a pansy as well.

I know Ivo had one as well and I think put a photo on here somewhere.
edited - Ivo's is here - a political one :)  It makes me think of political cartoons for some reason.

This one has a cockerel in the base and they say c.1890 poss Moser but not signed.

You could write to Moser and ask them.

Thank you very much m for taking the time and effort of adding all the links.

It makes all the difference when you know the technical term for the type of glass.
I will try and email Moser and see what they say as even if they did not make them they may be able to add a little bit more info.

Thanks again Roy
