Would it be possible to show an image of the whole item please? Villeroy & Boch comes to mind with VB but it's just a guess, seeing the whole item might make all the difference.

A clearer idea of the mark may occur if you get some putty or plasticine and mould it over just the letters.  The distracting patterns will then not occur.

The serrations on the edges of the bottom suggests to me that it was machine made. This was used on many machine made items.
