Topic: Murano Red Vase?

Hello,

I am new to Murano glass collecting and I have an opportunity to purchase this vase

What I know:

Label: No label

Size: Approx 6" tall and 4" wide at the top of the vase.

I know without a label it is hard to identify it, but does it look to be in the style of a Murano and is it a Murano vase. It is definitely hand made.

Hello and welcome. 

I'm afraid I strongly suspect that if this is from a Murano, it is a "murano" located somewhere in China.
The output of decorative wares from China is enormous, and their techniques are improving all the time.

Until quite recently we merely looked at the base, and almost every time it was unfinished we knew it was not Murano.  By unfinished it was ground but not polished, or it had a pontil mark which is comparatively rare for Murano glass.  I am afraid that labels are often intended to mislead on many of these items - even if they remain.

This base is polished, but not to a high shine. This is getting to be normal now, although a proper high shine is not unknown.
The reason we've decided Chinese is that we now know a lot of the canes used, they're just plonked on the marver and taken up - nothing has been done to arrange them nicely, they stretch as the glass does and end up not in a proper "scramble", which you'd expect from Murano, more of "just a jumble".
Very big and heavy is another clue, and the very bright, acid-y colours too. Particularly the yellow and that red that is just too terribly close to being orange.
