Martinuzzi cactus set - not seen this before
« on: May 29, 2021, 07:00:18 PM »
Just came across this looking at furniture :)
Interesting layout of it's era I guess. I think I prefer one piece rather than the set but it's nice to see:

:o I have not seen "fake pineapple tops" on pineapple stands before.
It's really rather creepy, en masse, like that.  ;D

I think it's supposed to represent Cacti but I'm not sure.  Now you say pineapple I can't un-see them.

I wouldn't mind just one of the pieces.
Here are a selection (scroll down) which look great together:

Those do look like cacti in pots.  :)
But the base parts of the first set you showed looked more like pineapple stands. They were a seriously important and extravagant fruit to show off, special stands were made for them.  8)

Thanks for putting up some of his glass.
I was just typing to highlight the 1925 Venini exhibition and your post came up!
In  the background of one of the images there is a large black and white  photo of nearly a life size
Josephine Baker sculpture made from glass.
I came to Martinuzzi through researching my Eda decanters which have Josephine Baker style images engraved on them.
This research is still going on.
Sorry to hijack the post.
Tim

I have lusted after a cactus since first seeing them in photos, utterly fabulous beasts. One day I am going to find one, out there in the wild.

I can dream...

I love them too.  However I feel they need to be displayed on a piece of black glass in an all white room.  In my head I always want to live in that kind of  'modernist all white and charcoal grey glossy space' to display my treasures beautifully.  However, my reality is that I just can't live without colour in my life  and I love a good carboot find (furniture/paintings/metalwork anything really) and mix up all the eras of design and so my house reflects that.

That sort of minimalist approach is fine if you lack soul...

ah no   ;D  I do love that whole sophisticated look - just not capable of living in it daily.  We've redecorated a few rooms. I've been ruthless with what I've displayed so they can be seen well but couldn't bear to part with the floor to ceiling cupboard full of glass I also love.  Haven't bought anything for ages though. That special piece is so elusive now.

The minimalist thing and all white is grand - for a laboratory.  8)
