Topic: Uranium Opaline Dishes.

I've called these dishes but I'm not sure of their purpose. They could be sundae/grapefruit dishes or as I think they are French they may be what they call "coupes". They have snapped pontils, appear to have been made in three pieces and are not particularly well finished, especially the stems. Date is a bit tricky but I think they are older than you might at first think, around 1900 maybe earlier, I think probably French. Size is about 9x9cm.

without the turned up foot rim then possibly not for grapefruit Nev, though agree some sort of desert dishes.     They may well have been made in France, but equally likely from half a dozen European countries, and possibly a far wider date range than we might think.    Have to say I didn't know opaline also came in uranium, but they glow very well, and I'm not too clued up on coloured glass.    Lets hope Lustrousstone looks in.

Yes Paul, I think also too small for grapefruit dishes. I have several pieces of similar uranium opaline, the large jug I've seen listed as being by Baccarat, which would be nice, but with no definite attribution. The smaller jug with the tricorn spout is also I think more likely French, late 19thC? The night set on the right I'd call Jadeite.

collecting this stuff can become very addictive  -  I had a tall cabinet once, kitted out with blacklight tube and several dozen pieces installed and it lit up like a Christmas tree when turned on.   If you're really keen on this stuff, you should get both of Barry Skelcher's books on u. glass  -  issued by Schiffer I seem to recall, though of course you may have them already.     I had both and Barry signed them for me - sadly I gave them away.           Regret I was never an expert on this stuff, despite seeing acres at boot sales some years back when it was more plentiful  -  now not so I believe - and most isn't marked so difficult to attribute remotely.

Thanks Paul, I haven't got the books but I've read an online article by him which is very informative. Collecting it is very addictive and I'm starting to run out of room  . It still turns up and I found a Hermanova dish in a charity shop this morning.

Is the wavy topped one a rose petal design Nev? If so it's Reich.

I think your sundae dishes are Walsh Walsh. They appear to be the same metal as this Walsh Walsh preserve

In view of Christine's comments, you might try again looking for a back stamp.     The Walsh back stamp can sometimes be the most difficult mark to see - even on clear glass - so perhaps more so on coloured stuff.      Certainly the book says that their non-clear glass is also marked though whether that includes uranium wares I've no idea.
