Topic: James Powell Whitefriars? Opalescent Vase.

This is a 4" tall posy vase with a uranium opalescent bowl and a rather plain clear glass foot and stem. The bowl is pale yellow lead crystal and rings beautifully, the foot is, I think, soda glass. I first thought it might be Thomas Webb but now think it is more likely to be James Powell. Hajdamach Plate 256 shows a pale lemon opalescent vase "probably" by Powell and P.266 describes them making this type of glass.

Really lacks the finesse typically associated with Powell, little resemblance to the vase in plate 256 which is far more refined.

Far too green for Powell as well. Powell stuff is pretty well documented and straw opal is what is says it is, straw-coloured. Once you've seen some in the flesh you don't mistake it for anything else. Bowl and foot wouldn't be mixed types because of the compatibility issues. Lots of English companies made uranium opalescent glass

It is actually more yellow than green, my camera has either altered the colour or picked up the uranium glow.
