Fish Decanter missing stopper
« on: May 31, 2022, 08:09:58 PM »
Found at a car boot this nice looking decanter with 3 engraved fish swimming around pond weed.

Missing it's original stopper. I thought it may date from as early as the 1920's. The decanter is not signed.
I have had a look in my books but came up with nothing.
Height minus stopper 8"
Weight 955gm

Thanks to anyone who can ID it.
Thanks Roy.

Looking in “Art Deco to modernism” there are two designs with fish by “Stuart” a vase and bowl, so might be worth looking in that direction. There not the same but of a similar era. Cheers Mike

Stuart did make barrel shaped decanters. I can't really comment on the work on it, but the overall shape murmured Stuart to me when I first saw it.

There is also a similar fishy design on a jug from the Thomas Webb pattern books shown on page 238 of Hajdamach British Glass 1800-1914.
