Toso lighter and maybe bollicine pear?
« on: September 10, 2006, 01:12:06 PM »
Hi

These are two carboot finds this weekend.

This I think is by Toso and is a lighter

http://i7.tinypic.com/2h6doxs.jpg

And this pear is acid etched on the base IW or could be IVV ( I think) and is full of tiny little bubbles similar to either bollicine or pulegoso. But as I have never seen an example of either in the flesh so to speak, I am going by pictures

Many thanks

Hi,

I don't know of a company called "Toso," but you are almost there... the lighter is proabably by Fratelli Toso, circa 1960s.  I've seen this design by the millions in ashtrays, but this is actually the first time I remember seeing the lighter.  Very pretty.

The second doesn't look Italian to me.

Hi Laura,

I know there are two "Toso's" and get them both mixed up, so if I put Toso, some kind person like yourself puts the correct first name for me :D

Who do you think made the pear? It has quite a lot of wear to the base which is polished flat, and it seems to be a quality item.

Hi Barbara,

IVV is an Italian company; IVV - IND. VETRARIA VALDARNESE SCRL
Primary glass manufacturer, but I can't tell you any more about them, sorry.

Edit: Just found their website; http://www.ivvnet.it/ivv.asp
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

Hi,

You really are a star  :D , if they had an icon for blowing kisses I would use it.

Thankyou once again.
