Ken Badger engraved vase
« on: November 08, 2022, 05:02:09 PM »
I am trying to find out more about Ken Badger since buying this vase for the museum collection. The quality of the engraving of a hawk is outstanding. The vase stands 23 cm high and is made from lead crystal. The vase is signed 'Ken Badger 1974'.

I have contacted the Guild of Glass Engravers to see if they or their members know Ken Badger and his work. I am still awaiting a reply.

Can anyone shed any more light? I couldn't find anything on the internet about Ken.

Thanks in advance.

Anton

Very nice engraving. It’s hard to see with it wrapped around the glass but could it be a kakapo? So maybe from New Zealand?

If it's from New Zealand then it's far from home  ;D I found it in an antiques centre in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, hiding at the very back of a cabinet.

Might the vase blank be a clue? I attach a picture of the base. Perhaps someone recognises who made the blank vase. Maybe Stuart Crystal or similar. It has an 8-pointed star and notches cut out round the edge of the bottom of the base. The notching around the rim seems somewhat inconguous too and may be original with the blank. The glass is heavy lead crystal. It rings nicely when flicked with a finger.
