Hi, I came across this cute little cream jug in a charity shop and bought it to try tracing the maker from the registration design lozenge. If I'm reading it correctly the design was registered on the 17th December 1875 by Sowerby and given the reg no.297041-2. Am I correct in thinking that 41-2 at the end means two items were registered, perhaps cream jug and sugar bowl?
I've found what seems to be the matching sugar bowl in the 1885 catalogue but the cream jug is not there, perhaps already dropped from production.
Looking through later Sowerby catalogues it seems items with this type of attached feet were falling out of fashion around this time.
Interestingly I came across an article that says a copy of this jug was made by an American firm in the second half of the 20th century.
Thought this might be of interest.
Cheers
Keith
