Carolyn, you wouldn't actually contaminate a "perfume bottle" with any sort of smelly stuff, would you?

Oooh, the shock, the horror, I need another coffee to get over this sacreligious notion.

If you were to, you can buy dinky glass funnels for just such a purpose

I was shopping with my 16 year old niece yesterday at an antiques mall. She really liked the look of some (pretty boring) perfume bottles on a mirrored tray. I know she wears a lot of perfume and I was considering giving her a pretty perfume bottle or two for christmas. I'm not talking high art (like one of adam's) 'cuz I can't afford it, but you can buy some pretty ones anyways.

If you ever need to remove a smell from a previously-used bottle, a quick rinse with a solution of Sodium bicarbonate will do the trick - but rinse well afterwards - it's alkaline, which doesn't agree with glass.
Good perfumes should be kept in the dark, to prevent deterioration from the effects of light.
:-[ Maybe it's my science training, but I'm simply not comfortable with decanting things from their original bottles - you loose the direct connection with the name and batch number of your stuff, and risk introducing contamination. Should any problems arise, you can't be sure of their source.

All righty then. I'll buy the tray and a couple of perfume bottles, but will encourage her to keep the perfume where it is.
