Marke Faust?
« on: September 26, 2014, 02:58:59 PM »
Is anyone familiar with the German glassmaker Marke Faust?  Or is that not a name but a trademark?  Or...?

There are some excellent lego-like glass bricks embossed largely with that name, and I don't know anything about them.  Probably 1920-1930s era.  He's not mentioned in any of my reference books, and there's nothing online.  He deserves to be better known.  Check out the attached pic.

Polytechnisches Journal 1907: Glass bricks with the trade name "Faust" are put on the market by Deubener Glaswerke.

Konstruktionen in Stein (constructions in stone) mentions Sächsische Glaswerke AG in Deuben, district of Dresden as factory (even a few years earlier - likely since 1901).

Blätter für Architektur und Kunsthandwerk mentions Grützner & Winter as predecessor of Sächsische Glaswerke.

Keramische Rundschau of 1911 reports about a general assembly deciding on the (planned) liquidation of the company.

On the other hand, Hütte in 1920 quotes a price for Faust Glasbausteine by Sächsische Glaswerke Deuben.
