Dino Martens signature
« on: March 04, 2007, 08:14:09 AM »
Hi,
I've bought a 'Dino Martens' Vase with a etched signature at the bottom.
No I don't know is it real or a fake.
Has sonmeone a photo (of a item or from a glassbook) of the signature?
If necessary I can take also take a photo of my vase.
Thanks all for help.
Many greetings from Germany
Chris

I've put a photo to the glass queries.

Hello Chris,

Neither the vase nor the signature look right to me. Are you sure it's Dino Martens that you think it's signed with? It's odd that it's also signed '02 (2002).

I've never heard of any piece signed by Martens, and this does not look like any of his designs.

I also think it says '02
and the design doesnt look familiar to Dino Martens.

Looks like 62 to me too, Anne.
If I know, I'll comment. If I think I know, I'll have a go. If I have no idea, I'll just keep quiet and learn from others, so the next time I'll know.

If you click on the enlargement, it definitely says '62. But the vase looks mass produced 07.

Well, I took a look at the enlargement and still think its 02, lol
The top of the "6" looks too thin, like its another scratch on the bottom....
At any rate, I agree this vase looks very new, and the signature is more than suspect.
I havent seen any Dino Martens signatures, not even on his book.

Thanks for all answers.
1.  The signature reads:
Dino Martens   and definatly 62 (sorry for the bad photo)
2.  Didn't Martens make some vases with murrines at this time? I thought I've seen similiar somewhere.

I would think the vase is contemporary Chinese and the signature a fantasy. Both the technique (engraved instead of diamond point) and the writing itself (rounded linked script) are wrong.

The vase isn't a classic of Martens for sure. For what I have seen and read the Marten's vases were normally unsigned, at least the classic ones (Oriente, etc.)
I really think that it is just a fake. Sorry
