Vase, Murano?
« on: March 09, 2007, 11:41:44 PM »
Can anyone tell me if this is Murano? or dare I say it, Chinese?

Its heavy, It's cased in clear, then the heavy gold/copper, purple, then white,
Very large base, 16cms across, height 14cms.

Has a bow at the neck in clear glass.

It's really beautiful with the sun on it, which brings out the purple.
Any help on this one would be appreciated.

I vote for V. Nason (Murano) - even if I've not come across this specific model before. Great photos!

 Thanks Ivo,
Did hope that it was V Nason, but I haven't seen anything like it as well, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Possibly Dalian, China? I've never seen a Nason piece cased before and the white inner is new to me as well.

I've never seen a Dalian piece with a polished pontil mark or applied clear threads, a strong white inner or an attempt at design. I have a similar vase (minus clear thread)  in red opalina (= cased white) with rolled in aventurine, same style same quality - which is 100% non-Chinese....

I did search on here for Dalian, and came up with a couple of links for you.  Maybe they'll be useful.  If you search under 'Dalian' you might find more too:

Can I upload that to GlassGallery Ivo?  I've already written to Glassyone about the initial photos in that posting.  :)

An idea to preserve this one, Max. (beat me to it!) ;)

Ivo: thanks for sharing that - I assume the right one is French? Does this bear similarities to Sandy's? I have to say, although I could be wrong, but I've never noticed a ground concave pontil on a V.Nason piece from their series of black, copper aventurine pieces.

I've posted photos of three vases, of which (in the followign photo) I'm pretty sure the left one is Dalian and the right is definitely V.Nason. The one in the centre I cannot say, but I bought it thinking it was a strange Nason! Any ideas welcome.

Sandy, it'll be worth looking at the various bases of these, as they are all different:

DALIAN:
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5554 - note the thick clear glass casing
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5553 - base

UNKNOWN:
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5559
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5556 - base (applied foot, broken pontil)
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5558 - backlit showing blue glass

V.NASON
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5561
http://glassgallery.yobunny.org.uk/displayimage.php?pos=-5560 - base

Hope this helps.

Edit: the Dalian pot has an amethyst coloured glass.
