Help Please. Are these Iittala or something else
« on: March 12, 2007, 11:14:31 PM »
Hoping I will have better luck with these items.Seems lately I am obtaining plenty of unidentifiable glassware. And each time I have bought these items, I have thought I knew the maker.Only to find when I get home and  cross reference, that they aren't what I thought. ???
I thought these items were made by Iittala, but so far have not been able to find a match to them.Any  ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

The tumbler measures 3inches high. The heavy bowl measures 4½ inches high and 13" diameter

Tapio Wirkkala's work for Ittala Glasbruk? No, but inspired by his designs no doubt. He joined Italla in 1946 after winning a design competition and died in 1985. His bark look influenced so many ( and produced many rip offs by small struggling companies seeing the prices Ittala were charging for a renowned and talented designer, a trailblazer! The Findlandia Vodka bottles was his and surely Geoffrey Baxter at whitefriars was inspired to design his "Glacier range" Both these designers used a very high percentage of lead crystal 24 to 30% which makes them heavy and they sparkle. Initations were made out of a low content crystal and lack that weight and "glister !"
easy mistake to make! Its called " a learning curve"!

Really? Gosh, I never knew that, thanks Stephen.  I've always thought the Finlandia bottles were rather cool... and the contents are good too! (There's always a bottle of Finlandia in the bottom of my fridge - it's the only vodka worth drinking IMHO!  ;D)
